It's finally time for me, Timmy, to take the reins of this absurd situation, and to be the narrator of my own story!
Bah, another letter full of instructions... Why should I keep following them, at this point? Father Winter took advantage of me all along, there is no way I'll help him ever again. And for sure I won't do it for the Reaper either, I barely know them anyway.
What to do, then? Uhm, my garden now makes some quite expensive flowers, probably I'll be fine for a while just selling them. Then, who knows?
But that's a problem for another day, I just threw a big party today! After all that stress, I really need to chill out a bit with my friends!
Wait, no way he showed up again!
"What makes you think you're invited too?"
"Please, Timmy, be reasonable... You're so close to completing the final task, why give up right now? Having access to the recipe for Ambrosia and all the ingredients is such a great power, aren't you interested in it too?"
"All I care about is having fun today. Which is why I didn't invite you!"
"But..."
It was a drag to ignore him all afternoon, but what else could I do? He refused to leave!
It surely was a wild party, for a moment I suspected my trailer's supports wouldn't be sufficient for the weight of all those people. And there were other people who showed up without invitation, of course. Why do these situations always happen to me?
Needless to say, neither my guests nor the Reaper were very comfortable in each other's presence. All the normal humans started to run away in fear, and I decided to join them: all this mess was started by Father Winter and the Grim Reaper after all, and I didn't want to participate in their conversation.
"Bye then!"
"Timmy, wait, we need your-"
"I said bye!"
"Grimmy... Long time no see, uhm?"
"Uhm."
"You've been avoiding me lately, Nick. You know I don't have anyone else at this point, why did you leave too?"
"I've been around for centuries, you know, but I'm getting old too. When you said you can't make any exceptions for me..."
"It's not up to me, my job is only to bring the souls to the other side safely.”
“I know, I know, I just thought it would have been much less scary if Timmy finished preparing some Ambrosia for me. And I also thought you might have entered our friends’ group too, he’s usually fine with occults and such. But then you scared him, did you really have to flirt with him out of nowhere!?”
“I’ve been very lonely lately, I hope you can forgive me...”
“Of course I do. Sorry, old buddy.”
“What about asking Timmy one last task, promising that if he agrees to help us we won’t bother him ever again? I can’t make exceptions, but it wouldn’t be bad to have you around for a bit longer, and considering that Ambrosia needs to be prepared by a mortal for it to work...”
“It sounds great to me, Grimmy!”
I don’t have clear memories of that night, I had another of those blank moments in my memory and ended up waking up 2 km away from my home. How weird…
What’s sure is that when I made it back to my trailer, Father Winter was still there, and he still had the guts to make demands too.
“To be clear, one last dish and you’ll disappear forever. Is it correct?”
“Well, here you go, then.”
And, with the mythological dish in his inventory, Father Winter disappeared again. Do NPCs like him need tricks such as Ambrosia too? Who knows…
What’s sure is that I can finally have my life back. What could I do? I learnt a lot about cooking and gardening, maybe I could make good use of those… Thinking about it, I heard of a hardly accessible neighbourhood, I think it's called Forgotten Hollow, inhabited by pale people with weird dietary habits. Who knows, maybe I could investigate what's going on, by placing some bugs I could obtain some good recordings after all… But that's tomorrow's problem!
I don't know yet what will happen, but I have a great feeling this time!
End of the Grim Reaper Saga
